Dragon-Tiger Mountain (Longhushan) in Yingtan is the founding seat of Orthodox Unity Daoism, where Zhang Daoling refined elixirs in the Eastern Han dynasty. Its red Danxia cliffs, jade-green Luxi River and ancient cliff tombs form a UNESCO Global Geopark.
Must-See Sights
The Celestial Master Mansion (Tianshi Fu), Shangqing Old Town, a bamboo-raft drift through the Danxia water gallery, Elephant Trunk Hill and the daily hanging-coffin raising show recreating a 2,600-year-old mystery.
Tour Experience
The bamboo raft takes about 40 minutes and glides past cliffs dotted with ancient plank holes and suspended coffins. Guides explain the Daoist heritage and the still-unresolved engineering puzzle of the tombs.
Getting There
High-speed trains stop at Yingtan North station. The combined entrance-and-raft ticket is RMB 230. A day trip pairs well with a Yingtan hotel, or add Wangxiangu for a two-day itinerary.
